Favorite Books of 2022

Nura and the Immortal Palace: I don’t read middle grade that often but let me say that this book really became one of my favorite reads of 2022 and beat out all of the competition. Nura and the Immortal Palace is an endearing adventure story filled with loveable characters at its core that emphasizes the cycle of exploitation. The juxtaposition between the bright, colorful world of the Jinn while hinting at the darker undertones of child labor was done in such a brilliant way was one of my favorite parts of this story.
The Stardust Thief: I absolutely fell in love with The Stardust Thief! The Stardust Thief presents two different worlds throughout the story. The world combines elements of beauty and cruelty into a chaotic harmony. The Stardust Thief emphasizes the importance of storytelling and identity, which was done so brilliantly. I’m excited to see where this story goes next!
Ophelia After All: This has to be my #1 top read of 2022! Ophelia After All differs from most coming-of-age stories because it highlights the struggle Ophelia encounters as she tries to figure herself out. This story hits home to the reader that change is a natural part of life and that no matter the change, it will ultimately be okay. All of us experience change, no matter what point of life we are in, and we must embrace that change for the better. Racquel writes in a beautiful, raw, and heartfelt matter that resonates deeply with you, eliciting an emotional reaction. I would encourage you all to read this incredibly, well-written story!

Foul Lady Fortune: Foul Lady Fortune is my favorite Chloe Gong book yet! As you all know, Chloe Gong is one of my favorite authors, and let me tell you she absolutely killed it! Foul Lady Fortune is an entertaining spy thriller filled with secrets, lovable characters, and a slow-burn romance that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Mindwalker: Mindwalker is a heart-pounding, fast-paced sci-fi adventure story with remarkable worldbuilding that is sure to immerse you into the story. This is the kind of story that will hold you on the edge of your seat until the very end. From page one, the action begins and doesn’t stop at all. I’m not the biggest Sci-fi fan, but after reading Mindwalker I’ll need to read more in the future!
The Honeys: The whole time I read this story I was absolutely terrified and creeped out. The story starts with beautiful and lyrical prose, but as the story progresses the beauty starts to slowly deteriorate revealing the dark and sinister aspects. It’s a story that’s filled with grief and unsettling secrets that juxtapose with fun, brighter moments. Even if horror isn’t your thing, I would encourage you to pick up this incredibly well-written story.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy: The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is a fun, exciting, and unique story that I absolutely adored! The world-building was absolutely fantastic as you’re thrown into a world of magic, demi-gods, and zombies that resembles our own world. Our two main characters were so compelling as they start off hating each other but evolve into a slow-burn romance. At the heart of this story is the exploration of different types of relationships whether that be romantic, friendship, family dynamics, or found families.
Love Times Infinity: Love Times Infinity is an incredibly heartfelt coming-of-age contemporary story that I would encourage all to read. This book is an absolutely wholesome story that will be sure to pull on your heartstrings and leave you thinking about this story long after you finish it. A touching coming-of-age story that shows the audience that unconditional love from others can help us to love ourselves.
As Long As the Lemon Tree Grows: It’s hard to describe how incredible this story is and I’m so glad that Zoulfa wrote this breaking story, which I would encourage you all to pick up. This is the kind of story that sticks with you for years to come. A story that will leave you speechless by the end, hard to put into the words what you just read but will forever leave a mark on you.
The Love Match: This story has definitely become one of my favorite Young Adult Rom-Coms! The Love Match is a delightful well-written story that is filled with heart and passion. This story is perfect for readers looking for Bangladeshi representation, an endearing romance, and a relatable strong protagonist.
